Pet insurance

There was a thread on VV a while ago asking about pet insurance. Just thought I would say how pleased I am so far with More Than. Given how old Mia is, my premiums are £15.83 per month. I pay a £50 excess and 20% of the claim. She is covered for each condition up to £6,000 or 6 years.

I couldn't claim for the first 14 days, but then she was ill after 21 days. They paid out quickly and without quibble, so I am well impressed

I have searched many companies to insure Smudge, given the awful time we went through when Tinker was so poorly two years ago. The problem is they all want to have him chipped and neutered, which he will be, but in a month or two's time (he is 5 months old) The premiums would be substantially less if he were 'done', but he is too young yet.

So - I either hang back and wait until after his op before searching again, or I insure him now, and hope the premium drops when he has his op.

I've never insured any of our pets before - he will be the first. Thank you for the tip, MM

We are with Protect Your Bubble (aka BDML Pet Insurance).

They have been absolutely fantastic over our claim for Millie. We pay around £6.30 a month for her and went for the mid range cover that gives us £4000 per injury. The smaller one was £1000 and the fuller one was £7500 of cover.

We pay a £75 excess but thats all.

So far, I would highly recommend them.

Gal, have you tried Petplan? When I insured Ava with them she was far to young to be spayed, but once done, I called them to let them know and it made no difference to the premium whatsoever. You can speak to them over the phone before taking out a policy with them and you don't get charged more because you haven't done it online.

Oh I was hoping the premium would be reduced after the chipping/neutering

I have about half a dozen quotes atm ranging from £7 to £12 pcm (the latter with Pet Plan ) but I need the least possible premium with the most insurance It's hard to know which to go for if you need to claim more than once - each one says one claim within a year of an injury for example, but what if it's a long illness with constant meds - diabetes or kidney problems for example?

The one thing for me that is a must is lifetime cover. Yes you do pay a bit more for it but it's worth every penny.

If I had a kitten that would have mattered but with an 11 year old I figured (sadly ) 6 years was probably a safe bet. Sadly Simon agreed a bit too readily
