Fraggle

I mentioned yesterday on the Daily thread that he was going to have a bit of a once-over by B's friend the doggy behaviourist? Anyway, he got on pretty well. She bought Ernie with her, her rescue Border Collie, who had quite a few 'issues' when she first rescued him, to see how F gets on with strange dogs. She and B took them both over the field opposite, and she did some work with him and observed....

She said his main problem is anxiety, he is hyper-vigilant and always looking to protect us from danger, which is why he barks madly at people walking past, noises, other dogs etc, but that as he settles once he gets to know them - and realises they aren't a threat - he is a great dog underneath (we knew that anyway ;) ) and that she thinks she can calm him down a lot :) He got on well with Ernie after the initial suspicion, and B thinks they will be great mates

She isn't going to charge us, as she wants to use him as a project and has already put a few bits up about him on her FB page :D 8-)

Project Fraggle - love it :D

Vigilant/protective you can use to work with; I had a rescue dog who was very afraid of men for instance, but because he trusted me, so long as I said it was ok he was fine.
Mainly though, it meant he would do absolutely anything for me, so with work and patience he'd have walked through fire if I'd asked him to x

Oh bless Fraggle - dogs can be just so incredibly loyal and it's heartbreaking when that trust is broken by humans. Thankfully though Fraggle now (and your dog at the time Di) is in good hands so hopefully any anxiety issues will settle.

Good luck - and lovely of B's friend to do this as a project and not charge.

PS: love the name Ernie for her dog :D

I'm allergic to long-haired dogs too Ton, but fine with most terriers :) Ernie stayed out on the field though so that was ok 8-)
