FAO Ria, or catty people

in the nicest possible way of course

You know Mia has kidney disease and has her Fortekor tablets? Simon said the most important thing for Mia is that she eats. Lately she has been eating well, but yesterday she didn't. I put their Felix senior down, but she only ate a mouthful. I gave her some of her Dreamies treats, and she ate them. So I went to Pets at Home and bought one sachet of Gourmet Perle, which she loves, but can't have. I gave her half of it and she ate that. So I mixed the rest in with the Felix and Mowgli ate it. So I thought maybe she is bored with Felix, so I bought Whiskers senior, she picks at it but doesn't tuck in like she was. Tonight though I gave her some small pieces of roast beef, boy did she enjoy that, it didn't touch the sides.

So I don't think this is a doesn't want to eat as in poorly, I think this is a picky, bored with Felix and senior food thing, but it is so hard not to pander to her, when she has to eat

It IS hard MM, and I have done similar in the past with Tinks and Smudge....but, she knows you will give her what she wants if she waits long enough, cats are anything but stupid!!

Maybe time to give her the normal food only? I'm sure she will eat when she wants to xx

Shell, I loose count the number of different pouches I've opened in the hope Molly would eat. Needless to say the other cats have all been quite happy about this and the hedgehogs have also scored :D But it's a mine field, it truly is, and I'm now at a point where I put food down and that's is. There is dry food for them if they don't like the wet food and Harry always has a large bowl of Butchers Classic (he doesn't eat any dry food).

When I still had Jasper I tried both him and Molly on senior food and none of them would touch it so I've never really bothered with it again. What I try and do is vary the food so they don't have the same flavour / make more than two days running.

None of mine will touch the regular Felix or Whiskas in jelly (the large chunky stuff) but they will eat Whiskas Simply in jelly, (it's smaller pieces and similar to the Sheba pouches), Whiskas in gravy as well as Felix as good as it looks and Sheba in jelly pouches - but they're a treat. Have you tried Whiskas in Gravy? It usually is on special in Sainsbury at 2 boxes for £6.00.

As a matter of interest why should Mia not be having Gourmet?

Meri I give Smudge both varieties of Felix, but if I get the normal one, I always fork it down for him so it is quite small....as you would a toddler, LOL. Well he IS only 7 moths still....he isn't at all keen on Whiskas though so I stopped buying that although he does like the dry biscuits of theirs. He gets a scoop of biscuits and two pouches of Felix per day, and apparently my neighbour gives him scraps!

So maybe this is why he looks at us like this (below) while we are eating

Gourmet food is too high in protein. Simon thinks that is a big factor in why her urea came down from 34 to 17 in her last blood tests.

She loves Gourmet, Sheba, etc but they are all really bad for her. She has to have senior food and so does Mowgli. She likes Felix Senior the fishy ones, they are like flakes, but I bought the meaty ones and I think she is bored with the chunks. I bought Whiskers senior fish but that looks horrible even to me. She doesn't like Gourmet senior at all, it is like slop.

On the floor you fool, where else????

I mashed her Felix down tonight to a pulp and she ate that. She has also had some chicken, so I am not going to worry about her, she is being naughty

Smudge is just too cute for words, and my how he's grown.

I have to mash up the food for my gang as well otherwise they won't eat it. That's quite interesting re the Gourmet Shell. Given both Jamie and Abbie are coming up to 7 years old I probably should start thinking about what I feed them to try and prevent as many health issues as I can later down the line.
