We had a useful afternoon yesterday.
We’ve been eyeing up houses on Rightmove, there aren’t many in Burton that we’d be interested in but there are quite a few in Swadlincote and the surrounding area. We don’t know that area though. It’s around 5 miles from Burton, John’s only ever been there for a colleague’s funeral a couple of years ago and I went around 30 years ago for a work meeting.
We had a walk through the town centre, it’s nice enough. More shops than we have locally, and quite a few independents.

Anyway, we had a list of 10 houses to drive past. 9 in Swadlincote and 1 in Burton. We wanted to get a feel of the locations and then if we get an offer for ours we’d have an idea of where we wanted to look.
We saw 9, there was one we didn’t even bother to drive up to. The road leading to it was horrible, really depressing, so we turned around before we’d even got to the house itself.

The reason the afternoon was so useful was because we couldn’t see ourselves living in any of the locations. There wasn’t even a house which one of us liked and the other didn’t, we were in total agreement about each one  We looked at a couple of new build estates, went into show homes on both, one a 4 bed and the other a 5. Bedrooms weren’t very big and in both houses the kitchen area was smaller than we have here.

But, on the way back we drove past a new build development, not too far from Tom’s and walkable to Burton town centre, so thought we’d have a little drive around there. I’ve looked online at this estate before but John’s always said he didn’t think the houses looked very big. It was 4.50pm but the doors were still open on the sales office so I popped in to see if they had any brochures and they said we could have a look around the show home if we wanted and they’d get us some info together while we did so.
We both loved it. John was very surprised, it was much bigger than he thought it’d be. I was really taken with the kitchen. It wasn’t one where you could have a table, there’s a separate dining room, but it was a really good size with an island with seating.
We went back into the sales office and gave our details so they can keep in touch with what’s available and got talking and it turned out that even though we were an hour away from home the man we were talking to lives just a couple of streets away from us!

He then offered to take us around to the house that’s available now so we could see it without furniture, that was in a nice position.
There’ll only be one more house of this style built as the site is almost complete and that house will be ready Oct/Nov and it’s right at the back of the estate and opposite is woodland and a common and a path which goes the couple of miles to the woodland behind Tom’s school.

We just need to sell ours!
