I had a go at knitting

I've been saying for years that I'd teach myself to knit so finally got the needles and books out that I bought a couple of years ago.

I saw this cushion cover in one of my books so decided to do something like that, to practice different stitches and techniques

I made this blanket, I used merino DK, it's about 3ft x 2½ft and is for on a chair in the downstairs living room. I've really enjoyed making it, although it took away a lot of my online time (and when I have got online I've been looking on Ravelry and the likes for stitch patterns  ).

That looks great Jo. Quite ambitious for a first time……my first thing was a pot holder……all in one stitch

Wow for a first time knitter that's a masterpiece Jo!!! Those stitches are quite intricate - I guess the beauty of it is each square is quite small so if you did have to pull it out and start again, it's not as bad as if you had to pull a whole front or back of a jumper out.

Very well done - it's very pretty!

That's really good Jo! :D :Hi:
Ravelry should come with a 'this will waste hours of your time' warning shouldn't it, but it is a brilliant site :)
Knitting's a nice thing to do in the evenings, and you can pick it up as and when you please :)

That's really good Jo. Well done.

I have at long last mastered crochet and my first project is a stripey blanket.

That looks great Jo :) I never really got much beyond scarves, although I did knit my niece a baby blanket, made from squares :)

Thanks all, I'm going to make one for in this living room when I get around to it, in different shades. Various browns, reds and rusts I think.

Debbie, I want to learn to crochet!

Jo crochet is quite easy, youtube good for learning.
Sizes of hooks are the same as knitting needles, so if you get a size 4 or 4.5 hook, you'll be able to use some of your dk to practise on x
Ps maybe Google 'granny squares', that's the basic design you see for blankets etc
