You stay where you are Ally. You'll know when the time is right to move.

Malaga you say?

Ally, we have similar struggles with moving. We both really fancy moving to the Manchester area, to the east of the city where there are some lovely villages with the moors nearby for dog walking and bike riding but where you can be in the city by train in 20 minutes. We keep looking on Rightmove and seeing really nice cottages which we could buy and be mortgage free but being cottages they lack the space we're used to.

And The Charlatans and Johnny Marr one week later

That's a nice one Jo.

When we moved from Fuzeta, think big. It was 170m2 and this is under 120m2 - and that's with the new bedroom

If the boys will be moving away soon, then it's tome to think of what you want. Downsizing takes a lot of thought. But we wanted single storey - certainly couldn't afford what was available in the Algarve. Although we didn't want a lot of land, there's not a lot of choice. You want single storey, you're usually looking at at least 2 acres. We've got 3

Oof! Hope I'm not stepping on toes here but that's a small house?

Where you talk about fancying to move to Jo sounds great...but do you pay more for the fact it's the Manchester area?

I'd like a bigger garden, but like you Jo we've got used to a bigger house, and the space. A house this size with a big garden would cost more, and we wouldn't want to take on more mortgage now it's nearly paid off!

Mortgage free are two of the best words in the English language.

I happened to chance on Escape to the Country today (before Jacob arrived and dragged us out  ) and the couple were looking to buy in the English/Scottish borders.

They wanted a 4 bed 2 bathroom house with a substantial garden....all for £250.000. And they found lots for the money they had to spend.

Amazing what you can get for your money in different parts of the UK.

It certainly is Ally! Our house would cost well over half a million over in Egham, where I used to live. The prices there are ridiculous!

We would have looked at this, years ago, but decided not to go for it, because of where it is. Too far from civilisation and too near the touristy spots. And neighbours, overlooking you too.
