Or better still, how we sometimes cooked it when I was little - on a toasting fork by the open fire 8-) :D :D Oh the taste............ :D

Delicious!!! :D
When we were in the tent the other week we were making toast on the gas burner and it was so good so now I've started sticking a fork into a slice of bread to 'toast' it on the gas hob.

That's what I bought last Monday Ossie, that toastie bread - tbh, having been used to homemade bread for about two years, it was cr*p  ! :D
The whole loaf weighed almost nothing, and toasted it was so light, very very 'papery', crispy and dry - and no texture to soak up any butter.
It served its purpose, but I'm glad it's not something we have as a habit, I couldn't really call it bread :?

I must buy a toasting fork :D We have a wood burner and I quite fancy a bit of toast by the fire in winter.

I love my toast for breakfast.

We've just bought a new toaster - a Dualit. It's quite different from other toasters but it simply marvellous.

There are no flimsy bits of metal for lifting the toast, which we were always having trouble with, and all parts can be replaced if necessary.

Strangely enough, the elements do not glow red like other toasters, but it does the job perfectly. It's not cheap but well worth the money.

This is it.... http://www.dualit.com/club-dualit-artic ... -winner-is

I can thoroughly recommend it. (They make four-slot toasters, too)

I love toast done in front of the fire. We have two toasting forks and the girls often sit in front of the fire with a piece of bread on them (or more usually, marshmallows)

Have they discovered S'mores Debih?
There are all sorts of variations but for instance: 1 biscuit, eg digestive or choc chip cookie, put one or two marshmallows on top, then a second biscuit - and toast it. Or use 1 marshmallow and a chunk of chocolate...or this version:

Maybe you'd rather I hadn't mentioned them? ;) :D
