The new stove (tips required)

The new stove is in. I had to eat my words - Mick said it would be up and running in October and I didn't believe him.

But he finished fitting it yesterday and lit (although it was really far too warm to light it). I'm really pleased with it but this morning the glass is really, really black and I can't get it clean - any top tips anyone.

It will look much better when it is all redecorated. He needs to replaster around and above it (we aren't having the arch of bricks showing above it - just the exposed bricks behind), fit a mantle shelf, repaper that wall and then I can get on and decorate it - though I'm not really expecting all that to happen until the Spring when we aren't using the stove any more. I can put up with it til then.

My glass is now sparkling after a top tip from Ton on FB.

Damp newspaper, dipped in the ash rubbed on the door. Rub it off with dry scrunched up newspaper and then I wiped it down with a soft dry cloth and as if by magic my window is lovely and clean again.

She's not just a pretty face is she. :D

It looks fantastic Debbie, and I would recommend Ton's method to, as I used to do the same with my stove :) 8-) Works a treat 8-)

We had two in our old house and have one here now too. Works wonders when some-one from Norway has a fire for a month and doesn't clean it at all

Looks lovely though Debih xx

I also had that identical rug Debih in front of my stove! I left it when we moved though, as it hid the burn in the carpet where a piece of hot wood jumped out one day  ;)

I have a green one too. I couldn't decide which so ordered both from next (a few years ago now). I opted for the brown but L wanted the green for her bedroom as it made a good field for her farm!!!
