Further to this problem of water leaking into the kitchen. When the shower cubicle was dismantled and the pipes checked out it was found that most of the pipes were copper but a couple of the pipes were of the old lead and not replaced with modern piping. This is where the leak was coming from and was going worse as the more we used the taps and shower.
All is now sorted and hopefully that will be that. They are in the process of replacing the shower cubicle and the Plasterer is coming tomorrow morning to re do the ceiling where it has been cut away and re tile the walls.

Pleased you have got the problem sorted, Kathy ..... I thought modern thinking was that lead piping can be a bit of a heath hazard. I believe some water companies may have schemes to replace them free of charge.

Thanks all.

We didn't know we had any lead pipes left up there. But according to Paul it's one of those pipes that are quite difficult as it has to go down the walls and through the ceiling. It seems a lot of plumbers don't want to deal with it as it is too much of a job.

So far it all seems to be working well.
