Mostly we had it under tiles, where it was soooo lovely. We also had it under the carpet and it still heated the whole room :D

Ooooh how lovely!! This house is nice and warm, but the thought of warm tiles underfoot sounds lush!!! :D :D 8-)

We have had a heat pump in the past too. they are very very common here. basically your choices here for any sort of heating is the little bar heater, a fan heater, a wood burner or a heat pump. no central heating. underfloor is available, but not very common.

just be careful with a heatpump as some models don't cope very well when the outdoor temperature is extremley cold. or maybe they are just the models we have here where it doesn't get extremely cold.

I would love to install another heat pump here in our new house, but like Loz says the outdoor units are a bit noisy, and for us that would mean putting the unit right beside our living area, or (not so) attractively facing the street.
