Cleaning a tapestry

We have a tapestry, given to us about 30 years ago. Quite small, hangs in one of the bedrooms. Got a fabric backing.

I like it, Grumpy doesn't

I vacuum it every now and then, but it's getting to smell a little musty.

Can I wash it? In a small amount of tepid water, with a small amount of washing powder?

As it says dry cleaning, think I'll take it down to the shop in the village :D

If you have it drycleaned the colours will probably fade
I personally would hand wash in Luke warm water and dry flat iron on on the wrong side
It's a risk

Okay, Saundra, that, to be honest ,was my first thought, just wash it very carefully.

Thanks xx

And it turned out fine :D :D

Washed very carefully in cool water, rinsed a few times and hung it out yesterday - no sun, so that was good.

Grumpy will be hanging it back yp later :D

Oh that's good!! I would have said the same, if I'd seen this post before Saundra suggested it - definitely a delicate wash in cool water rather than dry cleaning :)

Really glad it turned out well 8-)

Oh good, I'm glad - it would have been a pity if it had been ruined

Still pongs a bit though  not as bad, and himself can't smell it, so that's okay 8-)
