Kaz has it. Turn on lappy. Go to File Manage/Windows Explorer/My Computer or whatever it is called this week. Plug USB cable in to lappy. Plug other end in camera. Turn on camera. Camera now shows up in File Manage/Windows Explorer/My Computer. Transfer photos to folders in lappy.

Now, cameras sometimes come with software to help you organise and view your photos. Windows also has photo viewers and apps to do the same thing, and there are other bits of free software out there all doing the same job, but be aware that none of them are perfect and some popular ones, like Picasa, are no longer supported. I prefer to do it my way, in my own folder tree, and then use an image editor for making adjustments.

Most Laptops have a memory card reader nowadays. I just take the card out of the Camera and put it in the Laptop memory card slot and then just use Windows Explorer/File Explorer (same program new name), to copy them to my Pictures directory.

I only use the cable for the phone these days.
