Jo, by default OO saves work in its own formats, but this can be changed in Settings so that work is saved in MS formats. or for a one off you could use 'Save As' as described above.

When I started with the OU in 2000 they recommended the OO free download to all the students who didn't have MS software and we were submitting our assignments electronically so those teachers weren't giving good information.

I bought my new laptop one year ago and happy to find MS Office Starter installed on it. Just the basics but enough for my WP needs.
