I'm puzzled

A few years ago I wrote an autobiography of my early years, and downloaded it on to a disc.

When I purchased my present Lenovo computer, I downloaded this file onto it, and have referred to it several times since.

However, when I attempted to access it today, I couldn't, and a notice appeared saying Please insert a disk into DVD RW Drive (D).

What is going on?

It sounds like the link you used to access the file from points to the DVD drive and not locally to the file you put on the new machine.

Can you see the file in the File Explorer?

No. It's just disappeared.

I'm not too concerned, because I still have my original recording on a CD.

But I'm just puzzled as to why it has suddenly disappeared, and why I am asked to put a disc into the DVD drive.

I am with Suff.

It has happend to me when I thought that I had copied a file from a USB drive when all I had really done is creat a link.

I can only read it with the USB drive plugged in. Just a thought.
