my uk mob is about to give up the ghost

i have been given a NOKIA1112 by a friend who has moved back to UK from here (Portugal) phone is on local network TMN

how can i unlock it to insert my Uk SIM card (uk phone is very old and about to give up )

have found this online-

1) remove Sim card
2) ignore anything onscreen
3) type in -hashpw+CODE+1hash

pw+ can be typed in using the bottom left key BUT without a SIM card in i cannot type the word CODE and therefore not the +1hash

did'nt know that without a SIM card it is not possible to type letters in

any ideas anyone?

Hi Vic,

You need the code. Also, I think, you need the original sim it had when locked.

It might be cheaper to go to a local place that does unlocking. They will connect it to a machine and flash it.

Have a look here and see if you can get a code.

Remember, you have 3 tries then you have to get the phone flashed.

However, before spending £0.01 check ebay. It seems the going price of one of these unlocked phones is about £14, delivered in the UK.

Vic, you are not being asked to type the word CODE you are being asked to type in the unique unlocking code based on your phone's IMEI, and that it is on a sticker under the battery. You will probably have to buy the unlock code and it might be more than the phone is worth.

A cheap sim-free phone might be a better idea as Suff says.

However, for a free try here is a YouTube guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqBi4DbjTH4 and the site to go to is http://unlock.nokiafree.org/

It is almost a museum piece Vic. It might pack in at any time. If they will do it for pennies it might be worth it, if not a new one might be the best option.

Glad to hear you got it sorted Vic. For future reference for everyone, you can get the imei by typing *#06#. It's easier than removing the battery... :ugeek:

The only issue I have with Nokia "antiques", is that they start to fail, power off when they feel like it and don't properly charge the batteries even if you get a new one.

When you can get a decent cheap pone on ebay, unlocked and new, for £25 to £45, trying to resuscitate old phones is not something I see as being good value.

However, in the end, you got a working phone so I suppose that's OK.
