Lost email contacts

Got a new computer in October 2020. I thought all the data from the old computer had been transferred onto the new one.

I have been trying to find some emails with photos attached which were sent late December 2019 or early January 2020. They are from an American
family we met.
I thought they were on an external hard drive but no luck. Tried to find it in the deleted file of my emails but it does not go back far enough.

Is there any other way of finding it?

After a lot of fiddling--no not playing a violin-I have managed to find the information I wanted.

Cruiser, if you are with an online email provider; gmail, hotmail, gmx and so on, they will always be there in the cloud if you visit their websites often enough or unless you run out of time or delete them from their servers.

It is always worth paying a direct (Internet) visit to a provider every now and then just to make sure your stuff is still there. It's either that or download everything as it arrives via a client and save it to your local computer.
