Does anyone know where I can get a blocker? Have tried several free ones but they won`t download. Am inundated with them now, some even flash.

If you have a pop-up blocker turned on and your scans are clean the pop-ups could be ads.

How to deal with those depends on the "family" of browser you use - IE, Firefox or Chrome or any of their various clones.

For Firefox or Chrome based browsers there is are extensions known as AdBlock or AdBlock Plus. They both use filters such as Easy List or Fanboy's which are kept up to date by the net community. Install and enable either of them.

IE is a bit more problematic but there is a way. Go to Settings - Internet Options - Programs tab - Manage add-ons button. In the left pane go to Tracking Protection then click on Get a Tracking Protection List online. Scroll down and Add EasyList Standard and Easy Privacy. Once they show in the right pane right click on them and Enable. This might happen automatically or you might have to close and reopen IE.

Thanks both. I will do another malware scan and check for tracking protection. It happens in whichever browser I use.

Scratched record I know. But I have Norton 360. I rarely ever get ads

similarly i am getting a message onscreen saying that i have an ADblocker in use and to disable it

Sites can tell if you are using ad-blocking - they often let you know with a pop-up

Some of them don't care and allow you free access if you refuse.

Some of them try to persuade you to allow the ads, over and over, but are not that bothered if you refuse: they still want your business.

Some want you to allow the ads and will not let you in if you refuse.

It's a personal choice, but only the first two get my business.

Thanks, Frank. The flashing ones are the most annoying and are difficult to click out. VV seems the worst affected for me. Pep had a lovely blocker and did not get any ads but that was now almost seven years ago and maybe they are more sophisticated now.

Pop-ups are those new little windows (boxes) which sometimes appear on web sites. For example when I visit Amazon to browse and then choose a few products of interest I sometimes get one asking me if I want to login to my account, or on the BBC news site I sometimes get one asking if I would like to take part in a survey. They are benign and will either offer an X button to close them or will time-out and disappear if you do nothing.

Others may be persistent and apparently offer you no way to close them except to click something within them, say an OK or Cancel button - you should never do that, it is what they want you to do. Clicking on the top bar and pressing Alt and F4 simultaneously sends a 'terminate' command and should close them safely.

Most browsers now have some form of pop-up blocking enabled by default.

As for the flashing images in VV Ped. Look at Suff's little "Trust in ME" man - I am going to stop him..... and the dancing girls and the rolling eyes and so on.

In IE go to Tools>>>Internet Options>>>Advanced tab and scroll down to the Multimedia section and untick Play animations in webpages. OK your way out.

In Firefox open a new blank tab. In the address bar type about:config and hit return. In the Search box type image and hit return. In the new list look for image.animation_mode and double click on it. In the pop-up change normal for none and click OK.
