All over my computer today, be it on a forum or website I am getting various words in blue underlined, and when I hover my cursor over the word I get a pop up advert. Why and how can I stop it please.

Lou, you might have inadvertently downloaded an add-on, try running IE without add-ons and see if it works normally - you will get a warning from IE, just ignore it..

Go Start menu>>>All Programs>>>Accessories>>>System Tools... and click Internet Explorer (Np Add-ons).

If all works well we'll need to identify the culprit and remove it - it is not a virus.

Sorry Lou, I haven't explained properly.

Running IE in No Add-ons mode is not a cure... it's a possible way of identifying the culprit. If IE works well without the add-ons, but plays up when they are working, it means that one of them is causing the problem.

The cure is to find the culprit and remove it.

It's not a big deal.

If IE (No add-ons) works without the text pop-up yet they come back in normal mode you can:

1. Open IE as normal and go to Tools>>>Manage Add-ons.... then in the new window scroll through the Add-on types. If you select "Currently loaded add-ons" from the bottom of the LH pane it should be easier. Look for Text Enhancer or similar. You can enable/disable them at will, and once the culprit is identified you can remove it.

2. If you have a recent restore point you could try that as a quick cure.
