World War Two memories.

My dad and his brother were only children during WW2, but they both remember being in the air-raid shelter and all taking turns shaking milk to make butter all night long

My parents barely remembered the war - both born in 1940 - although my mum's first memory was of plaster coming down from the ceiling in her bedroom, when a bomb dropped in the next street! My MIL was an evacuee though, she was evacuated from Shoeburyness to the countryside. She wasn't treated well and doesn't really like to talk about it.....

My first in-laws had lots of stories of the war, as they were already married with a child by then. My first hubby was older than me - born in 1947. His dad was a cinema projectionist which was a reserved occupation - keeping up morale with films and showing news reels was considered by the authorities to be important. His mum came from Sheffield originally - they lived in Bradford - and when she heard one morning that Sheffield had been very badly bombed they jumped on my FIL's motorbike and rode straight there...to terrible scenes of carnage (I'll spare you the details) but luckily her family were unhurt.

Yes still many tales untold Kaz.
It helped me come to terms with writing about many things that have happened to me during my life. Its surprising how many folk still want to now about those years and it proves it with seeing how many have visited my website apart from all the mail I have received from worldwide.

Yes it really is something that many folk are into because I have had an invite to the next WW2 gathering in the Midlands.
I have asked my 91 year old ex-land army girl if she would like to come with me.
We will be picked up and taken home afterwards so we are looking forward to it.
