What Are We Reading In August?

I'm working my way through "Till The Cows Come Home: A Lancashire Childhood" by Sara Cox.

I've recently managed to pick up and read 4 of the 6 "Jackson Lamb" MI5 spy thrillers by the Oxfordshire-based author Mick Herron.

He'd had excellent reviews in the Times and other papers, but I found his books very difficult to get hold of - small-scale publisher, I think. I struck lucky and found them last month in an independent bookshop in Castle Cary, Somerset.

The books are very witty, darkly humorous, with lots of sharply-drawn characters. I'll be looking out for more of his books - I believe he's also written a private detective series, set in Oxford itself.

I'm reading Queenie Malone's Paradise Hotel by Ruth Hogan. It's her third book and the third one that I've read. I've only just started it but I thoroughly enjoyed her first two so I have high hopes for it this one.
