I worked with a bloke once who was nicknamed "Pothole", because everybody tried to avoid him..

Also remembering the old QPR and Southampton footballer Fitz Hall, nicknamed One Size...

True story. A lad in the RAF had very pronounced ears which caused him physical and mental problems, so he had an operation. The Sqn Ldr was concerned because he had been bullied and told us it had to stop: or else!

There we were in the crew room when he returned and a voice at the back shouted "Welcome back Swing Wing". It stuck.

FYI 'Swing Wing' was the term used for aircraft with wings that swept back to allow them to transition from sub-sonic to super-sonic speeds.

I can't now remember his real name, but he wore it as a badge. It was his and was unique, not like 'Dusty' Miller or 'Chalky' White, etc.

Nobody else was known as 'Swing Wing'. :D

We also had a Welsh lad with the surname Pugh - he was known as Winnie - work it out. ;)

On the subject of names, The last firm I worked for publishes the names of pensioners who have died in the magazine which is issued twice a year.

Last year one memeber who had died was named as Frederick Ikemefuna Wheelwright Olloh.

I did not know him so do not know what he was known as when he was working.
