Absolutely true story, this - taken from the latest edition of our local, fortnightly, New Blackmore Vale News:

Police pursuit ends with crash in cul-de-sac
..... The incident unfolded after officers from the Tactical Firearms Unit came across a cloned BMW on the A35 at Tolpuddle on the morning of June 22.
"The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit along the A31 started", a police spokesperson said.
"There was an unsuccessful sting of the vehicle on the A31 near Canford Bottom.
(Apologies to the member of the public stung - new tyres will be supplied)."

With that level of competence it's a good job that the local police didn't try to shoot the miscreants..

Watching a programme called Police Interceptors once.

Stinger ready... chased car just up the road, a marked X5 cop car just behind...
