The Island(s) with Bear Grylls

Postby Workingman » 17 Apr 2015, 16:16

9pm C4 on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Has anybody been watching it? This time 14 men and 14 women have been put on different islands with the basic instruction: Survive! It is fascinating to compare and contrast how both sets are coping - or not.

You can see in both groups the 'uppers' and the 'downers', the leaders and the followers, the stubborn ones and the pragmatists, the risk takers and the careful ones.

The group dynamics are very similar, which is a bit of a surprise.

The men have had more members quit than the women and yet the women, through their own actions, have given themselves the harder time.

It is a shame nobody appears to be watching.

There was a piece shot on the women's island the other night. A huge lightning storm was on the horizon and one of the women was on the beach acting as though she was orchestrating the event.

"Check this lightning out behind me... it's so cool
To the north we have a storm, and here we have a bolt of lightning
And I imagine that about here, at this moment, we will have a bolt of lightning
And here, to the right, we might have a bolt of lightning because sometimes it jumps from cloud to cloud
In a moment we are going to have a strong north-easterly bolt of lightning right there....
Hang on we are having a few technical difficulties....."

It was brilliant.

Kaz, he's hardly in it. He pops up every now and then with a few 'wise' words and then he's off again, which is good, coz I can't stand him either. :D

Ally, I thought that you would love the idea of yomping through the jungle living off fried ants and roasted scorpion while trying to make a rain proof shelter out of knitted fog and twigs.
