Di is right, Yorkshire parkin is a sort of flapjack gingerbread cake made with fine oatmeal and plain flour and syrup and black treacle and mixed spice and ginger and nutmeg and eggs and milk and butter and brown sugar and..... It all gets bunged in a warm bowl till mixed through.
It takes forever to cook on a low heat - 120C ish - for a min of an hour and a half.
Mum used to make it weeks before Bonfire night. She would score it in squares whilst still warm then wrap it in foil and put it in her dresser drawer so we couldn't get at it.
Clare ndb1 was on Bonfire toffee duties. She made the very bestest. I do not know who or why, but someone also made brandy-snaps - no cream, just the biscuits.
