C5 tonight.

Now this is more my time.... and I never took part.

We had just bought our first house and cash was a bit short so we avoided supermarkets like the plague... markets and home cooking were for us.

But... we could not escape visiting friends with their Findus Lean Cuisine, Milky Way bars, French bread pizza, Crispy Pancakes, Flora, Diet Coke, Vienetta. Everybody had them.... except us.

We had food.

Anyone remember textured vegetable protein? It went in spagbols, chillies, cottage pies, stews, burgers.

I tried a diet once that incorporated Lean Cuisine meals - the smallest portions ever!! Almost starved to death

Kaz!

We bought our first house in 1983 and for house warming presents we got:

Good Housekeeping's Illustrated Cookbook from C's mum
Ken Hom's Complete Chinese Cookbook from my sis
Madhur Jaffrey's Indian Cookery from my mate Roop (probably his mum in reality) in Nottingham.

They became our food bibles for decades.

We also had some old Be-ro and Homepride booklets that you got free with so many packet tops and a stamp. Those were the days!

We never did get into ready meals or takeaways.
