I went straight to fighters when in the RAF, but the V bombers always had a 'cache' the fighters, inc the Lightning, never had.
The Vulcan was beautiful, The Valiant, serviceable, and the Victor, menacing.

Hmmm, just saw this.
My father served on Vulcans from the late 50's to just before the Falklands. Hence why I was born in Lincoln and brought up in Waddington...
My best man's father was AEO on the last flying Vulcan....
They seem to have dominated all my youth and I've never seen anything as amazing as them doing low altitude high power aerobatics....

I was born in Lincoln and escaped at age 18, never to live their again. Father started with Vulcans in Germany in the late 50's then moved to Waddington, mother was a radar instrument tech and was posted to Waddington around the same time as my Father.
My parents still live in Waddington so I come back again every now and then. It's funny really because I met Mrs S when moving up to Scotland to live and work with my Mothers family, however we now have two of our Scottish born daughters living within 25 miles of Lincoln.... 4 of our 6 children now live in Lincolnshire which means I spend more time there than I had ever planned for.
When we married it was Leuchars air show day (that was manic and extremely poor planning on our part). My best man's father looked up as the Vulcan went over and said "I should be up there".
