Mums traced her side when I was a kid, I remember being dragged through cemeteries looking for so&so's grave to see if we could get other names. My gx4 grandmother arrived on a boat from Bohemia and were one of the first settlers in puhoi. Puhoi is a bit of a us and them town, us=descendants them=everyone else. The language is still known and spoken, and some traditions still done. I went to one as a kid, and remember the welcome getting very warm after we said who we were. The community photo from that day is still on the wall of the community centre. It must have been a centennial celebration.

Another was from Ireland and was such a ratbag his family paid for his voyage to NZ and paid him to stay here and never return!!
