Where did you buy it from OSC?

UK trading standards don't apply to goods bought outside of the UK, from the UK. Also I know Irish standards are different as there was a time when some PC's bought from Dell were shipped direct from Ireland and did not have the same UK conditions of sale.

I'd follow it up though. What they are doing is totally out of order.

It would appear that the temp sensor setting is too high so when they back up with fluff they overheat. I 'm willing to bet that the "fix" is not more than a sensor adjustment or replacement. Total cost to them? About €10 plus the engineers time to get there and do it.

I hate companies who won't come clean and fixt their own messes.

I have emailed what I think is our consumer protection organisation, so we shall see what they say.
