Here in Portugal, we have a week each year, when all the big supermarkets have a box or will give you a carrier bag, to put stuff in. Not only for the homeless, but all for the very poor - of which there are many. Just basic stuff, tinned fish, chickpeas, rice.

The basic pension here is about 450€ a month
