Seriously - how to find the right tradesperson

Postby meriad » 29 Aug 2017, 11:19

The fuse for the kitchen plugs here at work keeps tripping, and I'm fairly convinced it's to do with the dishwasher. So called Pimlico Plumbers to see if they can send someone out, but I don't know what I need..

They can send an appliance engineer who will check the appliance, but if the problem is to do with the electrics then he'll have to call an electrician and we need to pay a 2nd call out fee (£100 per hour plus VAT); or if he finds it may (which I doubt) be to do with the plumbing then a plumber needs to be called out.

It would be so much easier if there was someone that had knowledge of all three areas, come in - take the dishwasher out the housing and then see if they can source and fix the problem. But at this rate we seem to need to budget for 2 if not three separate individuals with their own unique skills...

sigh... :x

It's a nuisance isn't it! I agree with you that it does sound like there's a problem with an appliance though, is the dishwasher the only item in use when it happens?

Reminds me of the time we wanted a garden wall built at our old house. Front garden, 4ft tall and double bricked, bordering the footpath and then around 30ft in length in between our front garden and next door. Could we get a builder who wanted to do it? Could we heck! In the end someone put us onto a retired builder in the south of Birmingham who did a grand job.

Our washing machine broke down last year.
Called a local firm on Thursday. They came on Saturday morning. Fitted a new pump, new belt and door seal, Total cost under one hundred pounds.
Found a good electrician who has fitted a new consumer unit replacing the old fuse box. He also found a fault on the electric hob. It was a good price.
We have had a gas engineer to service our boiler and fire.
May change next year as we did not like his work when he fitted new taps in the bathroom and shower.
Meriad Hope you get your problem sorted.

Well, I thankfully managed to get hold of a handyman that we've used in the past and he's coming on Tuesday. So until then - it's dishes by hand. At least Walter knows how everything is put together in this place which will be a big help.

My poor colleague is between homes at the moment and staying with a friend, so she'd put a fair amount of her food into the freezer until she moves into the new place, it's all ruined - and most of it stuff she'd brought back from her holiday at home in Sweden
