Nice to know you are safe

Postby Suff » 02 May 2018, 06:45

Last night I went out to my car (quarter of a mile away), when I noticed 9 police cars and 2 NHS fast response estate cars.

This morning I found out that 1 man was shot dead and another seriously injured just round from the tube station.

Looks like reading a book whilst travelling is going to be off the agenda for a while.

The tube station is 100m from my apartment.

Blimey O'Reilly Suff!

Gun crime is getting worse (still rare compared to the states though). People are getting shot on a regular basis in Sheffield but not much gets into the national news. Most of it seems to be drugs related.

Yep it is not a good sign when this happens.

It is at times like this that I am reminded of the knee jerk reaction to the Dumblane massacre and how banning pistols from licensed holders was supposed to keep us "safe".

Apparently one witness described the killers as "boys". Clearly they used a pistol. Apparently it is not gang related and the survivor is under armed guard in hospital.

Tonight there was a police officer in the Tube station and a van on the kerb nearby. I have visions of a bolting horse and a firmly closed gate. What a tragedy for someone.
