Fyffes are a big Irish food firm. They are still going, so maybe the bananas have just been rebranded or are out of season.

It's a brand name, Ria. Almost all of our bananas used to have Fyffes stickers on them

Not only were Fyffes a major (or even the major) banana producers in the Caribbean from the 1900's, they were also a prominent shipping line (Elders and Fyffes). The Fyffes banana boats used to cross the Atlantic and dock at Avonmouth.

In fact, even until the 1960's / 1970's, you could book passage on a Fyffes banana boat out to the Caribbean; they'd take a handful of paying passengers.

I think the original Fyffes bananas sort of transmorphed into Chiquita Brand, which you do see in UK supermarkets today.

Fyffes was the brand name, and there used to be a small label with FYFFES on it stuck on each banana.

But that's going back a bit.

When I was a child, my mother always used to buy them when the skins were going black, because that is when they are properly ripe,
and lovely and sweet. I would still prefer them like that, but you can't get them now, as they now usually under- ripe with green skins.
