I did my formative driving in Germany and a few things have stuck.
* The two second rule - Dusseldorf nach Dortmund, Dusseldorf nach Dortmund...
* Indicate every change of direction well before you do it, and when there is a junction on a bend
* Use 2nd or 3rd to pull away in snow/ice
* Flash your lights to tell an artic or long vehicle it is safe to pull in
* Put 4 way flashers on when having to slow down or stop for an unexpected reason i.e. motorway crash
* Use handbrake and neutral at traffic lights instead of sitting on the brakes with the car in gear and the clutch down
Ever so sensible those Germans.
