You absolute B?@*&£%>S!

Postby Workingman » 02 Jun 2018, 11:03

I was doing a simple search on improving blood circulation and clicked on the top site provided by google.

BANG! My laptop is locked by ransomewear.

That is simply from opening te site. It has taken nearly two hours booting into Safe Mode and editing registry entries just to get it running something like. I am now doing ultra deep scans with Malwarebytes and my AV to make sure it is clean.

Thankfully I have this tablet in order to download some of the programs needed to undo the mess and even then it has all been a bit trial and error.

Why do these monsters do this?

It's quite frightening really, especially when as a society we rely so much these days on the internet.

At least you've got the know-how to get out of it - the vast majority of us haven't.

You are right Kaz, but as Ossie said I can fix it.

The site was a place people would use who need help with medical matters. These people will very often be vulnerable so to hit them with more worries is the sickest of sick things to do.

I have reported the url to Google, Malwarebytes and my AV, but there should be some way for search engines to shut these sites out well before htey get ranked. It was the first of a very long list on google FFS!.

I would have been without a laptop as I wouldn't have a clue what to do about it!

You're very fortunate really WM, to know what to do next.
