Am I the only one who has to retune at least twice a year?

I turn the TV on and some channels report "No service available" yet a rescan brings them back.

I have two TVs on different aerials and they are both affected. I have checked the missing channel frequencies and they are the same when the channels return. I also check the transmitter, Emley Moor, and it does not report any problems.

Stumped.

The TV itself is an Sony Bravia, about 9 or so years old and I don't remember ever having to retune it. Admittedly I've always been connected to either Sky or (as is the case now BT)

No problem here Frank, although we did have aerial issues just before Christmas that resulted in no channels and required a repair.

My DAB signal has gone right down the pan though. I've got Echo devices in the kitchen and living room for radio so it's not an issue there but we have a battery DAB radio in the bathroom and the signal's been very temperamental recently, but usually only in the morning.

Having said that, the mobile signal (regardless of network, and between us we're on four different ones) is virtually non-existent here too.

We get a message to retune at least twice a month.
We have a Panasonic TV and recorder. Tuned to Winter Hill with good reception. Some channels are now HD.
No problems with reception, just pressing the wrong buttons.

I might have cracked it thanks to an old mate who worked on the tuning for C5.

I have a 'smart' box from my time with TalkTalk so I hooked that up to the aerial I use when camping.... It picked up 178 channels of varying types when directed at Emley Moor mast! However, it turns out that my flat is not on Emley Moor (174kW), it's on a repeater at Beecroft Hill (0.2kW). They are almost directly in line, but Emley is 25k away and Beecroft is 4k and even with the distance Emley is stronger.

It looks as though I am going to have to go in the loft with my compass and realign the aerials.

We haven't had to "retune" anything other than reset Freeview occasionally when channel numbers have been altered, but here we are on the edge of the Mendip transmitter range and the picture does freeze occasionally for a few seconds or so usually when the weather is bad.

The Beecroft / Emley Moor thing is interesting - we had a similar effect when we lived in Somerset. Again, our main transmitter was Mendip, but the aerial was also more or less on the same compass bearing as a Welsh transmitter, Swansea way. So, with just a slight tuning variation, we could also pick up S4C and (more importantly) the Welsh rugby round-up programme "Scrum 5" on a Sunday evening. Not the best of receptions, but still quite viable.
