Northern Soul and Matt Monro.

What?!

So here I am on YouTube going through some Northern Soul favourites when I come across this Matt Monro fellow.

In another life I knew that he existed, of course I did, but I was hip and a Mod - Matt Monro, pah.

What I had missed was the songs and the voice. I am now hooked and it will be way past midnight when I get through his greatest hits. We are never too old to learn new things.

Do you know Workingman, I often listen to the radio 2 programme on Saturday between 1-3 when they play two top 20’s of years gone by. I am frequently surprised by the voices of singers from the late 50’s early 60’s and Matt Monro’s is one of those voices.

Although I am slightly intrigued how Northern Soul would lead you to Matt Monro

Shell, you get a Northern Soul playlist on YouTube... and some bod has put in a Matt Monro link and it goes from there.

You could end up with Arlo Guthrie or John Denver, the Tokens or The Elgins... it is what it is.

Northern Soul is a bit 'local' up here, though you had it down in a few clubs in Peterborough and Northampton.
