It's soooooooo quiet

Postby JanB » 02 Jun 2019, 20:59

:Hi: :Hi: :Hi: :Hi:

We're gobsmacked - no dogs barking all day :Hi: :Hi: Just how this place should be :Hi: :Hi:

We can only think Sr Felipe (mr policeman) came up yesterday and had words, as it's been so quiet. We even heard her telling the dogs to shut up earlier  when we went into the part of the garden they can see.

Keeping everything crossed it carries on.

It has been sheer bliss though, can just hear the birds and the odd car up and down the track - heaven 8-)

Fantastic Jan, you're right - that's how it should be.... the occasional bark is one thing but the ongoing barking is enough to drive anyone mad. Fingers crossed it stays like that

There's barking and there's BARKING, Vic, I have heard them! Between them, the 6 am donkey that sounds like a steam train cleaning its stack and the 24 hour strimming it can be hell.

Fingers crossed that it lasts, Jan.

Had 11 years of it in Madeira ,it's their culture to keep dogs outside admittedly should not be maltreated but their attitude to dogs is somewhat different to ours in UK.
Not really kept as pets to be molly coddled

Our neighbours are English Vic.

All they say when we ask them to keep the dog on the other side of their 10 acres is that dogs bark. Yes, we all know dogs bark. But this is supposedly a guard dog, which is kept penned up - all day and all night. She kills their ducks, geese, chickens and also chases after the sheep, goats and donkeys. Hence her being penned up.

She and her mother were rescue dogs. They told us that as they were kept on a leash all day, they felt they had to rescue the pair of them. Then realised that they were dangerous and have kept them penned up for 3 years. The mum died recently and they now have another raffeiro, who was bought from a local English lady who rescues and breeds all sorts of dogs.

Now, she I would hate to live next door to. She has over 30 dogs herself and boards too   We know her neighbours and they are so pleased that she has sold and will be moving next month.

We have spoken to the GNR about the problem, which has been ongoing for 3 years. We're really hoping that something can be done. And it's not only us who suffer, we can set an alarm clock by Junior the donkey

Dog noise in the distance I can cope with - dogs barking less than 10 meters away from my bedroom window - all night - is not something I'm going to put up with.

Pleased for you, Jan! :Hi:

Do you think Sr. Felipe could come and "have a word" with the blasted pigeon that's insisting on sitting on our TV aerial and coo-ing down the chimney? It's so loud in the living room, you can't hear yourself think when he gets a head of steam going ….
