Disaster - the kettle went "pop" late yesterday evening  so a mad scurry around to find a replacement this morning! We settled on a "like for like" Russell Hobbs replacement sourced locally from Waitrose and cashed in the £10 voucher I got given by mywaitrose for mucking up my account with them (they'd deleted my marketing preferences accidentally so I haven't been receiving special coupons and money off offers for a bit now.)

Then off to Hauser & Wirth, on the outskirts of Bruton, which is a rather pretentious art gallery and sculpture park (visited recently by HM the Q whilst on a whistle-stop tour of Somerset). It's also home of the Michelin-rated Roth Bar and Grill, which charges reasonably eyewatering prices for Wagyu steaks and things, and was doing a roaring trade. There were two exhibitions going on, one of works by 14 contemporary female artists and the other dedicated to the children's author Richard Scarry, (1919-1994), an American (although widely travelled) who illustrated loads of picture books for kids . This exhibition displayed many of his original working drawings as well as his Tyrolean hat which featured in the books!

The main exhibition was a bit weird, really. Very much pre-occupied with genitalia and large black "War of the Worlds" creepy spiders. OK, I'm a Philistine, but it didn't float my boat.

Beyond the gallery, however, there was a large garden "field" landscaped by Piet Oudolf (Netherlands) which was beautifully planted out, very peaceful, very attractive, although overshadowed by a large fibre-glass dome which appeared to house an outside bar and events location. Overall, a memorable visit! :D
