Well now......

Postby Osc » 06 Oct 2019, 11:50

You may remember that my birthday meal in Cork was less than satisfactory. It was only later that I discovered that I was not the only one who did not enjoy their meal. Miss Osc was dealing with it on the night, and although the restaurant manager initially pushed back against her complaint, in the end he did adjust the bill to allow for the various issues. When checking out the next day, I told the girl on reception about it - she saw the reduced restaurant bill on her system but said there should have been an accompanying report with it but there wasn’t. However, she made careful notes and promised to move it up the line.

Before we went on our cruise, I had an email from the Hotel Operations Manager - apologies, usual platitudes. We weren’t looking for anything, but did want them to know how dissatisfied we were that a special night had been so disappointing, bearing in mind it is (allegedly) a five star hotel. While we were at sea with no internet, SIL wrote a very factual negative review on TripAdvisor and lo and behold, he was contacted by the hotel’s general manager! Then when we got back into 4G territory, I had an email from her - the upshot is that I have been offered two nights b&b and one evening meal at a time of my choosing :D :D I graciously accepted ;) and once a few upcoming things are sorted, we will be on the road to Cork again

Osc,
Well done. It is worth complaining to let senior management know what is wrong.
On our last cruise we did not like the table we had been allocated in the main dining oom for our evening meal. After speaking to our head waiter we were told the Restaurant Managerwould see us when we were leaving.
She told us we would be moved to another table for two in another part of the dining room. Even got another bottle of wine. Had to bring two home as we did not have enough time to drink all the bottles we had been given as we also get free drinks at one of the bars.
I also give thanks when we get good service even if it is only an email.

100% agree Cruiser - too many people are quick to always complain but never praise.

I also agree 100% - we got some complaints made about us the post office, but never once in 34 years did anyone write to praise us. Just last night, I contacted Gatwick Airport to praise a member of their security staff, who did her job professionally but in a friendly manner when we were going through their on our way home from our cruise. Incidentally, it is quite astonishing how complainers are prone to exaggerate and out-and-out lie when making their complaint
