If you use the self-service tills at our local Adsa it goes like this:

You scan an item and the till goes "ping" so you know it has been scanned properly, but before you can do anything you get "Thanks. That's scanned. Please place it in the bagging area". It happens within a nanosecond of every single item. People, many people, have been heard to tell the "woman" in the box to "shut up I'm going as quick as I can!".

So, I fired off an email... as you do. I have just had a phone call from Carl in their tech dept to tell me that they are looking into it and that the timers will be adjusted to give us a bit more time before the "woman" pipes up. 'Every little helps' as one of their competitors often tells us. :D :D :D

Well done! :D

I use the Coop ones fairly regularly, and quite honestly how I don't come to fisticuffs with them, I don't know. They're so pernickety! They starts by moaning if you put your bag in the bagging area, consistently refuse to read the bar code on my sports papers, the banknote in-feed is as dangerous as Arkwrights Till, they get right tetchy if you're slow putting your coins in, and one of them's even been known to give the wrong change!

Harry works in Sainsbury's and is often "in charge" of the self-service tills. He has some tales to tell about stroppy customers :P ;)

Don’t forget “unexpected item in the bagging area” - it is really no surprise that customers get infuriated at these machines

It's progress of a sort.
In Sainsbury's we used to have an announcer cheerfully telling you of all today's bargains. Well, I say cheerful. She actually sounded terminally depressed. You would be pushing your trolley round and her speil would conclude with her saying mournfully "Thank you for shopping at Sainsbury's, Wakefield". I always expected to hear her finish off with "and now I'm going into the store room to top myself" but it never happened.
