I should know better

Postby JanB » 08 Jan 2020, 20:18

Asked Grumpy what todays job would be. I'll paint the gates, he said. About time too, the previous owner made a complete mess of it, green and rust

We both walked down the drive (230 ish metres) to sand them down. I walked back up, did the prep for dinner, walked back down with a beer for him (well, the sun was out, it was after 1.00pm) walked back up.

Walked back down with another beer and had the idea I should do something, apart from watching him  Walked over the field, gathering stones and put them on the drive, near our nice neighbours house, as we want to plant more spikey things. Did that, for four more plants, about 8 large stones each.

Grumpy wanted a stool to sit on, so went back up the drive, got him a stool.

Then he wanted another beer, so walked back up and got him one. Me too  by then, I was glowing 8-)

Wandered around the field and got eight very big stones, to go by the gate, for another plant. One or two at a time, they were rather large ;)

Decided I needed another beer, off I went, back up the track

How many up and downs is that?

Then decided that as I could see lots of dry twigs, I'll gather them up, to use to light the fire.

Off I go, up the track, to get the wheelbarrow.

Wandered around the field, picking up lots of wood. Took the wheelbarrow and wood back up the track. Put the wood in the wood store.

Walked back down with another beer each.

Pointed out the bits he'd missed and got my head snapped off

Walked back up, with the bucket full of stuff he'd taken down. He left the stool down there for tomorrow.

And now I wander why my knees, legs, back and hips ache.

That's some distance up and down the track!

And it's up a hill too

Had a laugh though ;)

Our not so nice neighbour went off to feed his animals, but one of the billy goats escaped.

Daft prat was running after him, shouting, hey, stop

He should know that Portuguese goats know Portuguese, not English ;)

Jeez Jan! that's a fair workout - I'm exhausted just reading that.

Crommers, no need to feel tipsy at all; the beers are tiny over there ;-)

Yes, we have the 25's. You can get 20's, but one mouthful and they're gone

In the bar, we drink 33's ;) at 80 cents a bottle :D but it's going up soon

That's about £2 per litre for the 5% stuff. Not available anywhere in Rip-off UK, not even in supermarket multi packs. In a bar you would need a new mortgage!

At the hotel bar down the lane it's £3.60 a pint.

When we back to England, heaven knows how many years ago, it was 2.30 a pint then
