Naming and Shaming

ASDA.... got that ASDA.

Own brand plain flour: normal price 47p. Profiteering price for the same product today is £1.50. That is not far short of a 320% increase.

Pass it on.

I have informed Trading Standards, Citizen's Advice and ASDA, who now know that I am Naming and shaming them on (un)social media.

That's outrageous.
Also on the flour theme I used to occasionally get Wright's Ciabatta flour mix, 500g from Sainsbury's. It used to be about £1.10 I think. On line it is now selling from £1.45 to £2.70.

I doubt you will get far WM. There is plenty of flour but the idiots panic buying ran them out of small (1-2 kg), bags. You could get 25kg bags but not 1 kg.

As this is not a product which features in volume in most households, I expect Asda to justify this by saying it is a deterrent to stripping the shelves and won't have a significant material impact on households.

I think you are right and they are profiteering, but I think they will get away with it.

Same with pasta, £1 for a bag that would normally be about 70p :? I'm afraid the cynic in me agrees with Suff!

Asda came back to tell me that it was still their own brand but they had to change their supplier and they have to pay a new price. Really?

If that is true then there will never be any difference in their own brand and Be-ro, Allinson, McDougal's ever again ... will there? Time will tell.
