Oops, I got bust

Postby meriad » 07 Aug 2020, 07:04

watering the allotment with the hosepipe..... Got there about 6.15 this morning and no one there so connected the hosepipe. About half an hour later a guy walks in with his dog and I didn't see him until it was too late - oops  .

I noticed when I left that he, when he left, had wiped down the notice board where the names of the plot holders are listed - so now I'm waiting for a letter or email from the parish council.

oh dear

I don't think there is a penalty per se Shell.... I was asking Emily, who has the plot next to me, lives just across the road and has become a friend. She said I'll probably just get an email reminding me it's not allowed and telling me not to do it again. And as Emily said - that time of day no one was using the water trough so it wouldn't really make a difference if I used the hose or not... it's not as though I was watering with a sprinkler; I was watering the roots of the plants same as I would with a watering can

Ria, why are there hosepipe restrictions?

It is not as though we have not had the daily downpour over the last couple of months! :?

Wonks.

I don't know Frank - it's always been like that. And the somewhat annoying thing is that we're not allowed sheds or any other fixed structures that would be tall enough to catch rain water. Which means our only way of watering is watering cans filled up in a trough; we share one trough between five plots. But the trough fills up really slow and with this weather, the moment there are two of you watering at the same time you just can't do it. Hence why I try to go first thing in the morning - there isn't anyone else there and I don't have to compete for the water. Same reason for Emily - she (and sometimes her partner) usually go around 8 or even 9pm; two of the other plot tenants have young children so are more restricted and the fifth usually comes around 4pm or so. But the few times I have been there the same time as others it really is a pain and takes forever and a day.

I'd love to have a shed so I could attach a few water butts and then set up a slow drip irrigation system but alas.... that's not to be
