Card readers.
Specifically card readers in Waitrose.
Specifically card readers in Waitrose that tell you to remove your card when you put it in.
And then does it again.
And again.
And when you apologise to the cashier and put another card in, tell you to remove your card.
And then does it again.
And again.
By which time I'm apologising to the lady in the queue behind for holding her up as well as everyone else in earshot
Eventually a senior cashier gets it to work.
But she is less than pleasant to me.
So I go to the Customer Service Desk to complain about the card reader.
Because this isn't the first time it's happened to me.
Or the second.
Or the third.
No-one else has complained.
I am told to contact my bank.
Well, no ...
I have had this problem consistently for at least a year.
I know other people have had the same problem.
The lady on the till admitted it had happened to someone else earlier.
Someone I spoke to 6 months ago admitted your card readers were old and past their sell-by date.
I have never had a problem with this anywhere else.
Iceland, the OneStop shop, the garden centre .....
Anywhere
I now carry cash because I cannot trust your card readers to work.
But you should still contact your bank.
[This is the Post Office defence: Tell your Postmasters it's their fault, no-one else has complained, the IT system is completely infallible. Look how that finished up for them]
No I am not contacting my bank. It's your [unprintable] card readers.
Please pass my complaint to management.
I await a telephone call .....
