Cruiser, that is very low (well I think so)... what is the maximum you have your heating set to? Something definitely isn't right with your system - and your house is losing heat somewhere it shouldn't be (and not just cavity walls, because they will have some insulation in them. But it really shouldn't be taking over an hour to heat up by only 3 degrees? How old is your boiler, and do your radiators have thermostats on them?

I'm sure it was Jo who said that they did a trial where they had the heating set to a certain - lowish - temperature for the entire day and night - and that cost wise it didn't make much difference to having the heating off during the night and then making the boiler work quite hard to warm up the house come morning. With the all day and night setting the boiler was just kicking on for a bit every so often to come up to temperature again so it worked out fairly even?

Yes Ria, it was me. We have it set to 17c and it keeps a nice steady temperature and it’s not made much, if any, difference to the usage.
