For crying out loud!

Postby Kaz » 05 Jan 2017, 16:27

I've only gone and accidentally 'washed' my new Kindle Fire :( :( It got put in the machine with a pile of washing I'd been sorting in the bedroom, then carried downstairs and put straight into the washer. I didn't notice the kindle

It's dead as a doornail :| Becky has Googled and the suggestions are to put into an airing cupboard (we don't have one) or a sealed plastic bag with rice in. It is currently 'hiding' in the bedroom, in said bag of rice, close to the radiator. I really don't want to tell Mick until I have to, it was his Christmas present to me.

I get worse, I really do! :( :( :(

Oh heck, that's really frustrating! (but quite an impressive feat really - a phone I could understand, but a kindle? oops)

The airing cupboard and bag of rice are the only two solutions I've ever heard of... but if it was in the machine for the whole cycle I'm really not holding out much hope - sorry

but just thinking - depending on the cost of a replacement vs insurance excess; could you claim from your contents insurance. They usually cover accidental damage

Nor me Ria :( Yes, it's 'impressive' even for me

Re the insurance, not sure it's worth it, it would probably put up the premium for next year, and as you say, depending on the excess on it anyway, I'd have to check.

I suggest you put it somewhere warm, like by a fire, but not too hot. and leave it
there for a few days, to give it a chance to thoroughly dry out. You might be lucky.

And don't blame yourself too much. These thing can easily happen to any of us.

Thanks for the kindness, I do feel a bit of a fool xxxxx

Aggers, it's right by a rad so pretty warm. We don't have any fires as such, it's a very modern house. Ria, no she has a combi boiler, but it wasn't a bad idea. As Saundra says I will probably have to replace it *sigh* It's not so much the money, as they aren't *terribly* expensive, but I feel I've been a bit careless, with a gift

Mrs Aggers says she put each article into the washing machine separately.
(Probably because I have a habit of leaving things in pockets)
