It started raining here at about 13:30 and has been pretty steady ever since, but the winds were not too bad. They are getting up now though, and it is like sitting in a drum with the rain hitting the windows. Next door have put pallets with breeze blocks in the trampoline frame - in hope! - because last week it went on a grand tour.

I hope those who got hit last weekend do not suffer again. Some of the pictures and interviews we had on TV were heartbreaking to see.

I'd say, yes it's blowing a gale and yes the rain is lashing down - but last week's Storm Ciara was actually worse here. We haven't had the 60mph gusts we had last Sunday, and they don't seem to be forecast, only in the 50's.
They are giving a heavy spell of rain overnight 1:00 to 7:00 but then easing off and the winds dying down from midday Sunday.

The Flood Alert here is still at the lowest level Amber, and hasn't been updated since Friday. They are warning more about the river course south of the town, after the three tributaries have merged. We're north of the town, with one tributary running near us, but it would have to rise a good 15-20 feet before we got affected, and if that actually happened, most of the town centre would be under water anyway. They did actually do a fair bit of tidying up and clearance work along the river bank last week, as it happens.

Kaz, I was reading earlier that Herefordshire is getting hit quite badly, flooding around the Peterchurch / Hay-on-Wye area, not a million miles from you ….

Just started being super windy here about an hour ago, breezy all day, and light rain....we've just had said hour of pretty heavy sideways rain too. I'm in the house alone - Tom stupidly has driven to Newcastle to watch some dog races

He's got there ok but he has to get back yet.....I hate this sort of weather, it scares me.

I get my weather from Leeds Braford Airport just up the road and it is currently showing sustained winds of 31 mph (50 kph) with gusts of 44 mph (68 kph) and it is lashing down. The army has been put on standby in Ilkley and Calderdale.

It's the winds that worry me most, Gal. It is a good job the trees are not in leaf.

I think you have it worse there than here. My BBC weather app is telling me winds are at 50mph and 'light' rain. It might be now (I could hear it pounding the conservatory roof, through the double glazed door with the handle lifted) but an hour ago I peeped out the window and it was what can only be described as Biblical - squally, in swathes along the estate road.
