We had to take him to the vets to be put to sleep this morning
He had diarrhoea earlier in the week, not unusual as he was a scavenger and I always keep Pro Kolin in the cupboard which would sort him out in a couple of days. Yesterday morning he was standing in the kitchen impatiently waiting for his chicken breast to be cooked and he really appeared to be on the up. He had some of that with the white of a boiled egg and devoured it all. He lay around then for pretty much all of the day, I did him another egg white in the afternoon and he didn’t want it.
John sat with him last night while me and Joe were at the match, he said he just lay there on his bed.
This morning he was losing blood and couldn’t stand. I phoned the vets and they were absolutely brilliant. Many people slate Vets4Pets but our experience is so different, they’ve always been so good with him. I was told to bring him straight in, they were short staffed and didn’t have a nurse available so were limited in what they could do today but they could call someone in.
We were there 10 minutes later, a vet came out to the car to him and then took us in through the staff entrance. She checked him over and said she didn’t think that there was anything she could do so we agreed that the kindest thing was for him to be put to sleep, we’d already prepared ourselves for this. At that point his usual vet appeared, bless her she was on a day off but she was there 25 minutes after I’d originally phoned.
He was such a good boy, the best, and such a gentle soul and we’ve got a lot of wonderful and funny stories about him so while we’re all heartbroken we’ve laughed as we’ve remembered things too.
He lived a good life, was loved so very much and will always be missed.
