Must look on his birth certificate to see if iv spelt it right

My friend Sara shouldn't have been called that. Her lovely Dad went to register her birth and she was to be called Sarah Jane. He got it totally wrong and she ended up being registered as Sara Joan  Only her immediate family call her Sarah, she's Sara to everyone else and even introduces herself as that.

Tom and Joe have their names lengthened. People think they're called Thomas and Joseph but Tom and Joe are the names on their birth certificates. They even both had personalised Christening gifts with the wrong names on.
Our surname causes people problems. Everyone assumes that they know how to spell it, and even if I start to spell it out for people they speed ahead and get it wrong.
Should've kept my own name, Taylor

Not as bad as Don - his parents picked the name Donal for him. All went well until Joanie (in her inimitable Irishness) took one look at it written down and said to the registrar: "no, I don't like the look of that at all. Stick a D on the end"!!

Absolutely true.

My Nan and Grandad named all of their children after family members. Bess, Doreen, Ivy and Reginald. My Mom is Ivy, named after her aunty, and she's always disliked it. We were talking about it the other night and I was saying how Ivy is making a comeback as a name, a footballer recently had a daughter and called her that. She said that her middle name - Caroline - was after Her Aunty Carrie. It was only a few years later though that they found out that Carrie was actually her name and wasn't a shortened version of Caroline.

I wish my parents had named us after family though. They gave us names which were popular at the time so that we wouldn't stand out :? My Dad's Mom was Louisa May which I think is lovely, and both of our parents had aunts with lovely names...there was a Sarah, a Charlotte, Carrie, Liza. Hannah was one great grandmother. All those lovely names and we weren't even given one as a middle name to use as an alternative

Wonder if Louisa May's mum was a fan of Little Women? :D

Don has numerous documentation of his mum's that states at least 4 different Christian names!

Joan Joanie Hannah and Johannah being for starters!

He still has the wee docket when his mum came over from Ireland on the boat - her name on that is Hannah Joanna Mulcahy.

My Harry is just Harry, not short for Harold (yikes) or Henry, like Prince Harry

My mum's first name was Heather, which I think is a beautiful name, but she hated it so everyone called her Alice, which was her middle name.

I've often wondered about Little Women Ally!

I wonder what Joanie's real name is then?
John had been trying to trace info about his Irish Grandfather and found nothing. Last year Tom had to write an essay about something 'historic' in the family and all we had were John's Grandad's war medals so I took photos and emailed them over to him. I noticed that the surname inscribed around the edge of one of the medals was different to the one they thought (Connelly on the medal but Conneely was the name John's mother and her siblings had used and was the name John had searched in vain) and from that different spelling he found no end of information.

Heather is a lovely name Kaz, but then so is Alice!
