Good afternoon all.

We've been to the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham this morning, to take back an old
presentation clock of mine that we recently had overhauled because it kept stopping,
but which is still stopping every two days or so. I hope they get it right this time.

Hope you are all O.K.

Good afternoon from Dorset! Hope the yomping is going well, Ally :D

Morning spent at a local garden centre buying trailing plants and a couple of pots; everything now potted up outside as they're forecasting showers later today.

I've then spent 30 minutes tracking down a postal address for HMR&C (no mean feat) so I can write and declare last year's income to them, to save them estimating everything. I'll probably get a response around October if I'm lucky.

And then the vexed question of the well-known on-line clothing store who keep sending monthly flyers to our old address, despite me sending increasingly more acerbic monthly responses to them telling them we've moved. I'll not name and shame the wretched store, but purely for the purposes of this post, we'll call them Cotton Traders  . I've been posting my letters to them in increasingly more remote rural postboxes, so either Cotton Traders are too daft to deal with my complaints, or alternatively my missives have been eaten by snails.

Anyway, today in final desperation, I phoned up their Customer Care, and it seems that Cotton Traders don't send these things out centrally; it's done by the local store. So I've been wasting a first class stamp every month writing to them at HQ because they've no idea what I've been going on about  . So, Mrs O under the thumbscrews - where have you ever bought anything from Cotton Traders? Narrowed it down to Lichfield or Evesham. Phoned the former, very helpful lass, yes, we're on their mailing lists - and now we'll be cancelled. Result. 8-)

Mind you, it'll take up to two months apparently for the new instruction to reach their mailing depot ....

Ostrich....

It's funny about Cotton Traders. We changed our address 5 years ago and never had that trouble.

Regarding HM Revenue and Customs, they used to be called HM Customs & Excise.
I wonder why they changed their name. Any idea?

I rarely eat them either Kaz, but when I fancy one nothing else really fits the bill does it?
Behind the tea and coffee is far too easy! :D

HM Customs & Excise were basically the VAT and Duty collectors, Aggers; a separate department from the Inland Revenue, which was income and corporation tax etc. They merged in April 2005 as a cost-cutting efficiency measure. You can draw your own conclusions how successful that was ......
